Tissues
Meds
Throat candies
Sounds good as a three course meal doesn’t it?
I have been thinking about what to post this week for the last couple of days but the truth is, I just can’t taste anything. There isn’t any point cooking something exciting if it all ends up tasting like cardboard. And no, I am not selfish, all four of us are in the same boat so I am not doing anyone a disservice.
The only thing that comes to mind is: spicy food. That should help. Pasta aglio, olio e peperoncino (lots of peperoncino) for lunch, end of the story. And I had this brilliant idea this morning to make a drink to accompany my three course meal, a ginger, lemon and honey drink. I know it’s a classic but it really does help. It kept me away from tissues for the best part of twenty minutes and such a big achievement deserves a blog post. The kids loved it and I could taste it too! Although my sous chef, who is the only one who claims he has some sense of smell left, says it smells like cleaning product (I can’t confirm but I don’t buy it).
Ingredients
a knob of ginger, peeled and roughly chopped
2 – 3 tbs of honey
half a lemon, squeezed
500 ml water
sugar to taste
Put everything in a pot and bring to the boil. Lower the heat to medium and cook for about 10 minutes. Remove from heat, let it cool a little bit. Strain before serving and add sugar to taste. The longer you let it sit, the spicier it will be! Enjoy a mucus free nose for about 20 minutes after drinking 🙂
